11 Best Shampoo And Conditioner Bars For Curly Hair

best shampoo and conditioner bars for curly hair

As a proud advocate for embracing my natural curls, I’ve always been on the lookout for products that cater specifically to the unique needs of curly hair. Luckily, my journey took an exciting turn when my friend Jayne introduced me to the world of shampoo and conditioner bars.

Shampoo and conditioner bars have developed so much over the last decade and there is now a good range of products that are formulated for all hair types including curly hair. Most bars are made from natural ingredients and come in packaging that is zero waste.

Jayne, now a great friend of mind, has been a hairdresser for the last 8 years. She’s also keen on living sustainably and only using natural products when she can.

Who better to take with me on this journey where we share our experiences with the 11 best shampoo and conditioner bars for curly hair?

But first, if you’re not sure what shampoo or conditioner bars are here’s a quick summary.

What are Shampoo and Conditioner Bars?

Shampoo and conditioner bars are solid alternatives to traditional liquid hair care products.

Most come in compact, eco-friendly forms, eliminating the need for plastic bottles and are typically crafted with natural ingredients offering a sustainable solution for those seeking to reduce their environmental impact.

Their compact design also makes them travel-friendly, ensuring your hair gets the care it deserves wherever life takes you.

During the several meet-ups we had, Jayne emphasized the importance of understanding the ingredients in these bars.

Ingredients such as shea butter, coconut oil, and argan oil are key for ensuring your hair continues to stay nourished.

One final point is that the absence of harmful additives like sulfates and parabens ensures a gentler cleansing and conditioning experience.

Why are Shampoo and Conditioner Bars Better?

The transition to shampoo and conditioner bars has been a game-changer for me, and I have Jayne to thank for that.

Unlike the liquid forms of shampoo and conditioners, bars boast concentrated formulations which ensures each bar I purchase goes a long way. Of course, this not only ensures a longer lifespan for the product but also contributes to reduced waste.

The bars’ solid form also eliminates the need for water in their production, which is another reason to make them an eco-conscious choice.

As I’m sure you are, I’m not only interested in reducing my product waste but also removing/reducing package waste is a big part of my life now and with shampoo and conditioner bars all of the plastic packaging is removed.

Jayne is keen to point out that beyond their environmental merits, shampoo and conditioner bars are now well known for promoting healthier hair.

They have come a long way since they first became available with varieties specially formulated for all hair types including curly hair.

The absence of harsh chemicals often found in liquid alternatives minimizes the risk of damage, leaving your curls looking vibrant and full of life.

How Can Shampoo and Conditioner Bars Help with Curly Hair?

Curly hair requires special attention, and shampoo and conditioner bars rise to the occasion splendidly.

Jayne stresses the importance of maintaining moisture for curly hair.

Shampoo and conditioner bars help to deliver that moisture through the rich natural ingredients that ensure optimal hydration, combating frizz and promoting defined curls.

Additionally, the gentle cleansing properties of these bars prevent the stripping of natural oils, a common issue with traditional shampoos.

This means less dryness and more bounce for your curls.

Jayne advises me to select bars with ingredients like aloe vera and glycerin, which are known for their moisturizing properties.

How We Selected the Shampoo and Conditioner Bars

Selecting the best shampoo and conditioner bars for curly hair was no easy task.

Jayne and I meticulously considered various factors, including ingredient quality, environmental impact, and customer reviews.

We focused on bars specifically formulated for curly hair, ensuring we stayed on point.

We prioritized bars free from sulfates, silicones, and parabens, opting for those with natural, nourishing ingredients.

Sustainable packaging was a non-negotiable criterion, aligning with our commitment to reducing plastic waste.

How We Tested the Shampoo and Conditioner Bars

Putting these bars to the test was an exciting endeavour.

Over several weeks, I rotated through each product, following the advice on usage and application.

Jayne and I paid very close attention to factors like lather, scent, and the post-wash feel of my hair but most of all we took notice of how the products helped nourish and maintain my curly hair.

Jayne’s insights proved invaluable, she really helped me to identify which bars truly catered for people with curly hair.

Hi Tara, thanks so much for reaching out. In our experience as the conditioner bar is a combination bar you may not need to wash your hair as regularly with the shampoo bar but everyone experiences slightly different results.

The best way forward is to try skipping the shampoo every second wash and see how it performs. If you get good results then try skipping 2 washes every three. Just remember to give it enough time for the results to be noticeable.

        I hope this helps, Jenna.
